Jenny Bower (she/they) PhD candidate, Gund fellow, educator
Hi, I'm Jenny, a PhD Candidate in Soil Science at the University of Vermont. I'm interested in how soil conditions promote mineral weathering in the Critical Zone and guide the behavior of nutrients and pollutants. For my dissertation, I'm investigating weathering dynamics in soils of the Northeast. This has led me to investigate phosphorus release from Vermont forests, calcium in rock fragments at Hubbard Brook, and collaboratively study fluoride movement in the White Mountains. My roots are in soil science, geochemistry, spatial analysis, and geomorphology. Teaching, communicating, and cooperative research bring me joy. When I'm not crunching data or digging soil pits, I can be found amateur mushroom hunting, spending time with my partner Noorin, and making music.
